Chiesa di San Frediano, mosaico

Piazza San Frediano

The area of San Frediano is rich in monuments and evocative landscape.

From the Piazza San Frediano, the mosaic of the church is attracting and inviting to visit the interior, especially Aspertini's frescoes the Miracle of the deviation of the Serchio and the Translation of the Holy Face, two evocative episodes of the city.

Continuing along the right side of the church, you can reach the fine apse on the Piazza del Collegio square. From here, you are driven to go on the walls and either look inside the city, towards the Pfanner Garden and Palace, or outside, towards the riverfront and the hills or the fortifications outside the walls themselves.

From San Frediano, you can reach the Anfiteatro square, with its original urban form, designed in the nineteenth century by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini over the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre of the second century AC. From here you can enter Via Fillungo, the most known and busy street of the city, surrounded by beautiful buildings, mostly dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth century.
