The Festival Puccini is the only Opera Festival in the world completely dedicated to Giacomo Puccini. Started in 1930, it takes place every summer between July and August in the Great Outdoor Theatrert (3,400 seats) on the shores of Lake Massaciuccoli near Villa Puccini, the house that the composer built in 1900 and where he lived and wrote most of his masterpieces.
The Puccini Festival, through the Festival Pucciniano Foundation, presents every year four operas and offers the public the musical repertoire of the Maestro, as Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Turandot, Tosca, the Triptych and other less famous works. Alongside great performers and conductors of international standing, stand the talents of the Festival Academy which trains the Orchestra and Chorus. Its activities include international tours in Japan, Spain, Germany and the United States as well as co-productions with the New National Theatre in Beijing and large monographic exhibitions dedicated to the presentation of Puccini in Italy and abroad.
