Botanical Garden Pond: Hauchnebelkabinet for WLM2019

Botanical Garden
San Frediano Bastion of the Walls of Lucca. Tall plane trees grow on the bastion. Beyond the walls, the bell tower of the Basilica of San Frediano juts out, with its multi-lancet windows and swallow-tailed battlements.

The walls
The highest part of the cathedral bell tower, seen through the foliage of a tree. Each story has mullioned windows, and the top is crowned with swallow-tailed battlements.

The Cathedral of San Martino
An archway leads into Piazza Anfiteatro. Bicycles are parked on both sides, and there are a few people walking and others sitting at café tables. In the background, the curved facades of houses, with their many windows, overlook the square.

Piazza Anfiteatro
Between two shadowed buildings stands the angel Saint Michael atop the church facade. In his hand he holds the symbols of the kingdom, and at his feet a defeated dragon. At his side is an angel playing the oliphant.

From the corner of Arco (the intersection of Via Fillungo and Via Roma), the blue sky and the Torre delle Ore stand out against the light of the tall buildings. On the tower is the face of the large 18th-century clock, and at the top is the bell tower covered with a weathervane bearing the inscription "libertas."
