Urban Trekking - Lucca, the Jubilee Roads

The annual event returns on October 26, 2025, allowing visitors to slowly discover the rich artistic, cultural, naturalistic, and food and wine heritage of Italy's cities and villages.

The theme of the 22nd edition of Urban Trekking is The Jubilee Roads: History, Art, and Spirituality, with routes and itineraries that invite reflection and encounter, savoring the journey as an experience of inner growth, connection with the landscape, and dialogue between cultures.

Lucca, the Jubilee Roads
Churches and palaces, alleys and squares, saints and pilgrims. Lucca is a city rich in history, places of art and faith, a crossroads of pilgrimage routes, from the Via Francigena to the Via Matildica del Volto Santo, from the Cammino di San Jacopo to the Cammino di Santa Giulia. Today, as in the past, we pass through places of spirituality where we can pause and observe the beauty that surrounds us, reflect on the human experience, and encounter ourselves and others.

Leaving behind the city walls, which for centuries have welcomed travelers and pilgrims from all over the world, you walk along the Roman decumanus toward two churches in the ancient heart of the city: the Basilica of Saints Paolino and Donato, a Renaissance church that houses the remains of the city's patron saint, as well as works of art and mementos related to the history and traditions of the city and its walls; and the church of San Michele in Foro, in the square of the same name where the Roman Forum once stood. Built in Pisan-Romanesque style, its façade features a large marble statue of the Archangel Michael, complete with wings and metal plates, slaying the dragon with his spear.
