The history, tradition, and art of Lucca and its province are displayed in a carpet of flowers, sand, and colored sawdust. A total of 15 paintings will depict the places, events, and traditions that have always characterized Lucca and its surrounding area.
The official record for the longest flower carpet in the world currently belongs to the city of Huamantla (Mexico), where a 3,939.53-meter flower carpet was created on August 14, 2022, but the Walls of Lucca are longer and the challenge is open.
On Saturday 22 August, on the Walls of Lucca, the “Festival Arti Effimere Guinness Edition Lucca 2026” aims to enter the Guinness World of Records through the creation of a monumental carpet.
The event - organised by the Camaiore Sawdust Carpets Association - was created to celebrate the Italian candidacy for UNESCO of the project "Floral carpets of ephemeral art”, the event involves five nations (Italy, Belgium, Malta, Spain and Mexico).
The Guinness World Record challenge features 13 cities from three continents, approximately 100 participants, and an organizing staff of more than 250. Representing Italy are delegations from the cities of Camaiore (Tuscany), Montefiore dell'Aso (Marche), Gerano and Genzano (Lazio), Noto, Acireale, Pachino, Cerda and Portopalo Capo di Passero (Sicily), Torricella Sicura (Abruzzo), Taurianova (Calabria), and Guspini (Sardinia).
The masters of this traditional and still widespread art will be at work from 6:00 in the morning until evening to complete their work.
The event enjoys the media support of the “Coordinadora Internacional de Entidades de Alfombristas de Arte Efimero”
