It's the night of San Lorenzo, the "night of desires" and Lucca dedicates it to the famous aria from Tosca with a walk with open ears and nose in the air.
We're getting ready for the night of shooting stars, which will be accompanied by other events in the sky and plenty of music on the Walls of Lucca.
From the San Paolino bastion to the Libertà bastion
After sunset, the "tears of San Lorenzo" arrive, one of the most abundant showers of the year. These small meteor remnants of the Swift-Tuttle comet, the famous progenitor of the Perseid meteor shower, burn up in the Earth's atmosphere, giving rise to the characteristic luminous trail.

8 bastions, 6 barracks, 2 castles of the Walls and many cultural and historical reenactment associations involved.
The Walls of Lucca will be the exceptional stage for opera concerts on the bastions, but also choral music to listen to and dance to.

From the Libertà bastion to the San Paolino bastion
This year, the moon is a small sliver, creating a dark sky that's easier to observe the stars. But the show everyone's looking forward to is the night of San Lorenzo, when the Perseids perform their famous astronomical event of "shooting stars." We're waiting for them with plenty of music.
Along the curtains, the treetops and the song of the nocturnal birds that populate this great architecture.
Lime trees, hackberries, holm oaks, plane trees, shapes recognizable even in the dark, illuminated by the moonlight.
The icing on the cake, or rather, a shooting star in the night
also the Civic Towers, Guinigi Tower and the Clock Tower, will be open from 9:00 PM to 11:30 PM with a single ticket (€4,00). Climb the more than 200 steps of the Guinigi Tower to reach the hanging garden suspended in the sky, one of Lucca's world-famous symbols, and the ancient Torre delle Ore with its unmistakable silhouette that still tells the time in Lucca thanks to an ingenious 18th-century mechanism, among the most famous in Europe. Admire the starry sky above and the city lights at your feet.

Grab a blanket and head for Colle, in the Lucca hills, where you can gaze at the sky on the night of shooting stars, in one of the most evocative, welcoming and dark places, between the Lucca plain and Versilia, ideal for observing the summer sky.
To while away the wait for this magical evening of Dreams of Stars at the Hill, there will be fresh watermelon, appetizers, drinks.

Another splendid celestial event awaits us in the August sky. A solar eclipse, only partial in Italy, but still thrilling, with coverage ranging from over 90% in the northwest to about 20% in the south.
In Lucca, the darkening will be 89.76%, starting at 19:26 PM and reaching its maximum percentage of covered solar diameter at 20:18 PM, as the Sun and Moon are setting.
