After the end of the First World War, veterans of the city and province began to collect and preserve historical objects and materials in memory of the Lucca community's participation in the events of the Risorgimento, until its completion in 1915-18.
The fascinating exhibition itinerary allows visitors to learn about and rediscover the local and national facts and events of this century of Italian history that led to the birth of the nation.
On display are everyday objects, paintings, letters, clothing (the red jacket of the Garibaldian officer from Lucca, Tito Strocchi), weapons, and memorabilia, including the precious Carbonari flag from 1821, which flew during the Five Days of Milan in 1848.
The museum also features an immersive video room, where you can watch and listen to a moving and evocative tale, fictional yet faithful to historical facts, about the daily lives of three characters whose stories intertwine with the events of Italian unification and the exploits of the founding fathers of the country.
