To be done strictly by bicycle, suitable for every season, an itinerary in the Lucca of Inspector Dodaro, the Rai Uno fiction (in streaming on RaiPlay) based on the novels by Pasquale Sgrò.

Riding his inseparable bicycle, early in the morning or in the evening at sunset, Inspector Dodaro, played by the actor Alessio Vassallo, travels every day along the avenues of Walls of Lucca to go to the Labor Inspectorate office or the Prosecutor's Office to investigate cases of accidental deaths and workplace injuries. Cycling is the Other Inspector's preferred means of transportation and also the best way to explore the historic center and its surroundings.
A round of Walls of Lucca Cycling is the easiest and most fun way to look at the city and its monuments from a special point of view.

La Amphitheater Square, with its distinctive oval shape, is one of the city's symbols. The inspector passes through it almost every day on his commute. But stopping for an aperitif, a quick pizza, or lunch can also be a good idea. Transformed over the centuries, the square continues to change throughout the day, its jagged profile outlined by the colors of the sky, which shifts with each season.
In the series' opening credits, the Amphitheatre Square is the final domino that closes in on itself, a metaphor for the Inspector's mental journey to solve his cases.

And then there's the "other square," Piazza San Michele, the alter ego of Piazza Anfiteatro, regular and opulent, with its unmistakable Romanesque church full of intriguing details that have gathered since the Middle Ages in this spot, always recognized as the city's central hub. The Inspector's bicycle zips confidently past this historic monument. The office here is just a stone's throw away; we turn into Piazza San Salvatore, enter the alleys, and there we are.

Many scenes were filmed at Palazzo Santini, which in the series is the Labor Inspectorate Office, where Inspector Domenico "Mimmo" Dodaro has his office. Palazzo Santini is a municipal building, and among the offices it houses, one was chosen to be transformed into the Inspector's office.
You will recognize it by its gate, its noble door and its beautiful portico with Pompeian frescoes, in a corner of Lucca where several elegantly designed eighteenth-century buildings are gathered.
The airy staircase that connects all the floors is perfect for the conversations, flashes of genius and twists that the Inspector's job requires.

The inspector lives with his daughter Mimì at the house of his friend Alessandro (the actor Cesare Bocci) in Fosso Street, a secluded street much loved by the people of Lucca, between the splendid Porta San Gervasio, one of the two original gates along the medieval walls of the city, and the eighteenth-century garden of Villa Bottini, which overlooks a languid centuries-old plane tree.
The house belongs to the Congregation of the Sisters Ministers of the Sick of San Camillo. In the small church of the Trinity, which adjoins the building, there is a hidden painting depicting the city. I wonder if the Inspector has discovered it yet?

In the drama, the city isn't just a backdrop; it's a protagonist that accompanies every scene, an integral part of the story with its walls, its narrow and widening alleys, its squares, and its historic shops. Locations also include private apartments, such as the one on Via Cherea, which offers a breathtaking view of the city skyline from a splendid terrace that provides the backdrop for a conversation between the Inspector and Public Prosecutor Raffaella Pacini.
If you really want to know all about the Lucca of the Other Inspector, here's where to look, in the other sets of the fiction, but be careful, it's a spoiler, you could lose the surprise effect...
