At the Real Collegio in Lucca the exhibition of the artist's photographic research can be visited from Thursday 10 to Sunday 20 June. A historical documentation of the past and the commercial situation in Lucca nowadays. A glimpse of time narrating the transformation of this important sector of city's fabric.

 

16 maggio 1944 – 16 maggio 2021. La rivolta di rom e sinti nel campo di concentramento di Auschwitz-Birkenau, 77 anni dopo. (May 16, 1944 - May 16, 2021. The uprising of Roma and Sinti in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, 77 years later). This is the title of the initiative organized by the city of Lucca and the Kethane Roma and Sinti movement for Italy are organizing on Sunday 16 May at 6:30 pm, on the occasion of the memorial of this important event live on FB / Comune di Lucca.

 

Sine Valium is the first theatre performance at the Real Collegio this spring / summer, organized by the art collective and cultural association Spazio Lum. On Sunday 16 May at 7:30 pm the premiere of the show is staged in the frescoed Capitolo room, in the Santa Caterina cloister.  

Gardens and courtyards

Get ready to visit Lucca and see a city you have never seen before this way, explore the green spots of the gardens that can usually be seen only from the top of the towers, hidden by high walls in the historic center of Lucca.
For garden globetrotters this is the opportunity for a discovery tour of all local green secrets!

On Sunday 23 May from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm the gardens and courtyards are open again for the 2021 edition of the Giardini e Cortili aperti event.

 

International Day of Museums

The future of museums: renewal and innovation is the 2021 theme of International Museum Day on May 18.

Lucca's museums will be open on this day, ready to resume activities and fantastic stories.

On this occasion Torre Guinigi and the bell tower of the Cathedral also reopen with the most beautiful views over the red roofs of the city. The Botanical Garden organizes guided tours on the occasion of the World Biodiversity Day on May 22.

 

The Giglio theater is back on stage on Sunday 13 June with the performance L'uomo che oscurò il re Sole - vita di Molière by Francesco Niccolini. Starring Alessio Boni and Alessandro Quarta.

The show, in national premiere, is dedicated to the life, misadventures and death of the greatest French actor and author of the seventeenth century, Molière, analysed through his fears and his theater. An amazing long and tragicomic story of love, ardor and passion, intertwined in a double narrative for voice and music.

 

The pandemic has changed our lives, our habits, perceptions and daily routine. In this new everyday life, many people wearing a pair of glasses often have sight problems by using a mask, since the lenses fog up.

 

1st edition of the Limes festival dedicated to Geopolitical Dialogues, scheduled for Saturday 15 May from 5:00 pm in the church of San Francesco. The Festival, promoted by the LuMeN (Lucca Mondo Nazioni) and Limes association, features Lucio Caracciolo, the elite of national and international journalism, and Alessandro Barbero, a great historical popularizer.

The program is organised with two 'dialogues':

 

Historic villas and parks, royal residences and gardens, castles and monuments that reveal surprising spaces, archaeological areas and unusual museums; and again, botanical gardens, nature trails to be enjoyed even by bicycle, tours through villages that preserve ancient traditions. Also this year the 600 openings in over 300 cities proposed on the occasion of the Italian National Trust FAI Spring Days, on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 May, illustrate the exceptional variety of Italy's cultural and landscape heritage.
