Church of Santa Maria Bianca or Forisportam

ADDRESS: Piazza Santa Maria Forisportam (o della Colonna Mozza) Lucca

Entering from the nineteenth-century Porta Elisa you happen to be in Via Elisa (named after the Princess Elisa Baciocchi), which leads into the medieval city through the tourist gate of Saints Gervasio and Protasio, built in the thirteenth century.

On this way, there is the convent of San Micheletto and, a little further on, where the boundary walls of the fourteenth century corresponds to the eastern boundary of the medieval city, there are the Buonvisi park and Villa. From this gate, next to the massive bulk of the Medieval walls, take Via Santa Croce to reach the Piazza Santa Maria Forisportam with its church, so-called because located outside the Roman walls.
