Francigena Bike

Nature, culture and sport all in one by bike on the new Francigena cycle path from Camaiore to Altopascio passing through Lucca and Capannori.

along the Francigena route, guess where are we now?"

For lovers of the Francigena route, of cycling and nature, a Saturday morning trip with friends through the region of Lucca is a perfect idea. From the hills of Montemagno to the historic center of Altopascio, on the town walls of Lucca, through the Pilgrims labyrinth of Capannori and under the ancient medieval tower of Porcari, you will find tourist sites, accommodation and refreshment points.

Inscriptions are open until March, 19.

Program:

8:30 am -1st Meeting point in Camaiore/Montemagno
9:00 am -Transfer to Lucca
9:30 am - 2nd meeting point in Lucca, Casermetta di San Salvatore, town walls
10:00 am - Welcome speech and official opening by the authorities 
10:30 am - Departure of the participants
11:00/11:30 am - 1st Pit-stop in Capannori, Pilgrims Labyrinth, Arthea Museum
12:00 am/12:30 pm - 2nd Pit-stop in Porcari, Colle della Torretta
1:00/1:30 pm - Arrival in Altopascio, Pilgrims Hostel, historic Center
2.00 pm - Closing of the event

The return to Camaiore and Lucca is not organized and participants are free to cycle back with their own bikes or to take the train from the station in Altopascio. Rental bikes have to be dropped at the arrival point in Altopascio.

Inscriptions and notice for the participants:     
Participation is free, but inscription is compulsory by sending the inscription form. 
Limited registrations (maximum 100 persons)
Deadline for registrations by March 15, 2019
Participants can join the event with their own bikes or by reserving a bicycle for free in the registration form (maximum 20 bikes available).
Since the route is very hilly in some points, the track from Camaiore to Lucca is recommended only for participants in good physical conditions.
For the other participants, the organizers suggest to start from Lucca, at Casermetta di San Salvatore, town walls.
    
Requirements: Age > 18 years (the event is prohibited for children under 18); minimal physical preparation; helmet use; suitable clothing. Characteristics of the route: distance between Camaiore and Altopascio km 50; height difference m 550; presence of refreshment points at meeting places, intermediate pit stops and venue of arrival.
