A year of sport... on foot

On foot

We begin in the historic centre of Lucca or rather the ring that surrounds it, acclaimed by joggers as the most beautiful place in the world to jog.
Every Saturday morning, you can join the Mura di Lucca Park Run, the non-competitive race that takes place simultaneously in the parks of more than 20 countries around the world.
Warm up and then each at his or her own pace for the tour of the Walls of Lucca, timed and supervised by volunteers and instructors.

Taking place at the beginning of March, the Marcia delle Vigne (March of the Vineyards) runs through the vineyards of the Montecarlo hills, with a long queue of thousands of participants. Running among the rows of grapes that later give life to the area's DOC wines is good for the spirit and the body.
There are routes for everyone, of 2-6-10 kilometres, and walking, not victory, is the destination, perhaps making new acquaintances, amidst the gentle, cool landscapes of the hills and, to regain strength, there’s in the end a pasta party.

Walking in the hills of Lucca even with a pram and baby on board and a family dog. To the delight of trekking and walking enthusiasts, there is the San Pancrazio e dintorni, at the end of March, a non-competitive foot march with a route through the parks of the historic Ville Lucchesi (Lucca’s Villas). The shorter 3-km route reaches the park of Villa Querci, which is usually closed to the public, and then returns to the starting point.
More articulated and twisty is the second 8-km route, which winds its way to the parks of villas Oliva, Grabau, Petri, La Badiola, where a refreshment point is planned, and La Specola, climbing the hills of San Pancrazio and Marlia, and returning.

At the end of April, on the other hand, everyone will be ready for the Marcia delle Ville (March of the Villas) on hill paths in three routes of 10, 16, and 26 km through the large parks of the Lucca's villas, which are occasionally opened for participants to pass through. Along the routes you will find refreshment points where you can restore your strength. Among well-known and lesser-known villas, museums and residences, today no less than 11 villas are crossed, as follows: Villa Del Vescovo, Orlando, Mansi, Lazzareschi, Torrigiani, Brughier, Guinigi, La Badiola, Villa Reale and finally 'La Specola', a former astronomical observatory built by Maria Luisa of Bourbon and designed by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini in the early 1800s, from the square of which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the Piana di Lucca.

From Versilia to the Piana di Lucca, Francigena Tuscany Marathon (FTM) is the first marathon on the Via Francigena in Tuscany on the ancient itinerary of "Sigerico" to be travelled exclusively by walking. A non-competitive recreational and motorised walk in line, open to all walkers, with 4 routes of increasing difficulty of 10, 11, 22 and 43 km that crosses the municipalities of Pietrasanta, Camaiore, Massarosa and Lucca, territories rich in natural and artistic beauty from the Little Athens to the Cretan labyrinth, in the colours and scents of the Tuscan September.
