Photolux festival - Worlds | New Worlds

Lucca hosts, from November 16th to December 8th, the 2019 edition of Photolux Festival - Biennale Internazionale di Fotografia di Lucca.

More than 20 exhibitions, spread in six venues in the city center, conferences, workshops, portfolio readings, meetings with the protagonists of international photography for the initiative of Lucca, directed by Enrico Stefanelli, with a rich program that revolves around the theme Worlds | New Worlds.

"In a year in which important events in history reach their anniversary," says Enrico Stefanelli, "we wanted to turn our gaze, through photographic narration, to some of the highlights of the twentieth century. Narrated today or then, we have collected stories that tell of conquests, of revolutions, of paths that have led beyond the walls. From the conquest of the moon, through the fall of the wall that divided Berlin into two cities, the Iranian revolution and the Tiananmen massacre, to Lenin's Russia".

The exhibition route

opens ideally from the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Fondazione Banca del Monte di Lucca, with the group show entitled 2:56 AM. To the Moon and Back (curated by Enrico Stefanelli, Chiara Ruberti, Naima Savioli, Alessia Locatelli, Chiara Dall'Olio, Alessandro Romanini and Andrea Pacifici) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first man on the Moon, through a selection of images from the NASA archive and works by authors such as Antonio Biasiucci, Vincent Fournier, Alberto Giuliani, Jorge Peréz Higuera, Kaja Rata, Edoardo Romagnoli, Penelope Umbrico, Francesco Zizola and others, as well as video and sound installations, objects and sculptures, which show the different approaches with which photography (contemporary and historical), visual and plastic arts, cinema, comics and music have looked at Space and more specifically at the Moon.

Visitors are also taken on an experiential and didactic journey into the imaginary of one of the achievements that have most marked humanity. The exhibition, under the patronage of ENAC - National Civil Aviation Authority, serves as a pretext for re-reading the history of mankind, made up of challenges, individual and collective efforts that have changed its course: small and big revolutions that have knocked down walls and built new worlds.

The initiatives

of Photolux Festival 2019 have a common element that distinguishes them, which is to document the human desire to go beyond its limits, thanks to a program that varies from the discovery of new planets through space exploration to an in-depth analysis of the social and political revolutions of the twentieth century, in particular of the last fifty years (from Iran to China, from Eastern Europe to Cuba), events that have consigned to history places different from those known until then, crossing borders and conventions.
