The associations of historical re-enactment of Lucca organize a series of events to celebrate the 650th Festa della Libertà wanted by the Government of the Ancient Republic to commemorate the liberation of the city after thirty years of tyranny. In fact, in 1369 the city regained its freedom thanks to the intervention of the Emperor Charles IV of Bohemia, who behind the pressing demands of the family of Lucca and behind a rich fee, issued a notice with which he freed the city from all foreign servitude.
The date is obligatorily that of Sunday in Albis as decreed by the ancient statutes of Lucca.

The Compagnia Balestrieri Lucca meets at 10:30 at the Cathedral of St. Martin for the celebration of Mass.
At the end (about 11:30) in Piazza San Martino, reconstruction of the ancient ceremony of the delivery of the Gonfaloni to the new Gonfalonieri of Terziere and exhibition of flags.
In the afternoon at 15:00, at the polygon of the Compagnia Balestrieri of Lucca (bastions of the Baluardo San Pietro), will take place the National Competition of crossbow shooting.

The historical commemoration continue in Piazza Napoleone thanks to the association Sbandieratori e Musici Lucca contrada Sant'Anna in Piaggia with the interregional gathering of flag-wavers and musicians under 18.

The association Contrada di San Paolino organizes the Disfida della Libertà, at the Campo Tiri della Repubblica di Lucca, located in via Pattana a Pontetetto (next to the sports facilities) with the final challenge of the crossbow for teams and individuals.

Throughout the day, the association Historica Lucense organizes a historical animation in the basement of Artillery and on the platform of San Frediano of the City Walls, swith an exhibition of costumes and old weapons.
