EHD - European Heritage Days

 

“Cultural Heritage: Including ALL!is the theme of the EHD - European Heritage Days, the biggest and most popular cultural event in Europe.
On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September, guided tours, special openings and online events will be organized in national and local museums and culture sites.
On Saturday evening special openings of national museums are planned with a symbolic admission fee of 1 euro (excluding concessions provided by law).
This year’s theme is a reflection about participation in cultural heritage extended to all citizens, including all age and ethnic groups, minorities in the area and people with disabilities.

 

The program in Lucca:

 

LUCCA E LA SUA CATTEDRALE
Documentary exhibition on the occasion of the 950th anniversary of the cathedral’s consecration (1070-2020).
The State Archives of Lucca, in collaboration with the Diocesan Historical Archives and the State Library, are organizing this documentary exhibition dedicated to the cathedral of San Martino in Lucca, through a selection of documents and codes preserved in the aforementioned cultural institutes.

ORTO BOTANICO – MUSEO BOTANICO CESARE BICCHI
The “clausus” heritage of the Botanical Garden: the collections of the historical-botanical section. the Botanical Garden offers its visitors the opportunity to learn more about the historical botanical heritage included in the Cesare Bicchi Botanical Museum section.
Guided tours and meetings with an expert in archiving and conservation of historical heritage
Sunday 26 September
11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm | Meeting with an expert. A vision guided by an archival and conservation expert who will show finds taken from the library and herbarium collections explaining in a simple and accessible way the preservation of  cultural heritage.

PALAZZO MANSI - National Museum

The history of silk in Lucca in paintings and textile collections of a sumptuous residence of merchants of Lucca, covered with splendid Flemish tapestries, along the path of the monumental apartments up to the Sala dell’Alcova.
Extraordinary opening and extension of the opening hours with extraordinary late openings of the palace and the Pinacoteca in which paintings of the Italian and foreign schools from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century are preserved.

VILLA GUINIGI - National museum
Once the home of Paolo Guinigi, here you can find the history of Lucca from the eighth century BC with the archaeological collection to the paintings with sacred subjects of the eighteenth century.
The exhibition “Nuovi studi su Matteo Civitali” - New studies on Matteo Civitali - is still in progress.
Extraordinary opening and extension of opening hours, with extraordinary late night openings.

DOMUS ROMANA LUCCA - Casa del Fanciullo sul Delfino

from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm - free admission including video on the origins of Lucca and the archaeological site, visit and welcome Calix (Roman drink and biscuit of the Fanciullo sul Delfino / the Child riding the Dolphin)

4.00 pm - Guided tour for the blind. Reproductions of the finds, models of the excavations and original structures will allow the public to touch history firsthand.

5:00 pm / 7:00 pm - Let’s build the Walls of Lucca, in the shoes of a master builder - didactic-creative workshop for children (recommended age 6-10 years)
5:00 pm / 7:30 pm - tour with the archaeologist from the Baluardo San Salvatore to the Baluardo San Martino passing through the medieval Porta dei Borghi.
At the end, aperitif at the “La Casermetta” restaurant.
