Preserving and cultivating the memory of tragic events and moments of our history and strengthen the values ​​of dignity, equality and freedom of every human being, with particular attention to childhood. This is the focus of the events dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance and Memory Days 2020, particularly important nowadays, when those values ​​often return to be threatened, together with the peaceful life of many citizens and peace in many countries.

Province and City of Lucca, with the collaboration of the Historical Institute of Resistance and Contemporary Age (Isrec) and of many towns in the area, have coordinated a rich and articulated program of initiatives to celebrate together the International Holocaust Remembrance (January 27), and the Memory Day (February 10), concentrating on the themes of war, racial laws and racism, the exodus, deportations and exterminations, prisoners, children and sports during the war.

The themes regarding the International Holocaust Remembrance Day will be centered on by a series of themed exhibitions at Palazzo Ducale. Particular attention is paid this year to the issue of Italian military internees.

Many events are promoted also by the towns of the province to pay homage and preserve memories part of our history and our democratic identity.
