June is the month of the solstice, of the arrival of summer, never so long awaited as this year, time of big changes and small things we have learned to appreciate.

1 #aselfie... with fireflies!

We have become pleasantly accustomed to being surprised by even the smallest things and to look for new places, even in our own home town or in our favourite holiday destination where we know everything about and where we feel at home.

Gardens and courtyards

Get ready to visit Lucca and see a city you have never seen before this way, explore the green spots of the gardens that can usually be seen only from the top of the towers, hidden by high walls in the historic center of Lucca.
For garden globetrotters this is the opportunity for a discovery tour of all local green secrets!

On Sunday 23 May from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm the gardens and courtyards are open again for the 2021 edition of the Giardini e Cortili aperti event.

International Day of Museums

The future of museums: renewal and innovation is the 2021 theme of International Museum Day on May 18.

Lucca's museums will be open on this day, ready to resume activities and fantastic stories.

On this occasion Torre Guinigi and the bell tower of the Cathedral also reopen with the most beautiful views over the red roofs of the city. The Botanical Garden organizes guided tours on the occasion of the World Biodiversity Day on May 22.

Dante 700

Throughout Italy and the world Dante's genius is remembered this year with particular love and attention as it is the seven hundredth anniversary of the Supreme Poet's death.

Dante travelled and lived in different places like Florence, Verona and Ravenna, where he stayed until his death. But he also lived in Rome, Arezzo, Pisa, Bologna, Forlì ... and probably even in Lucca, mentioned several times in the Divine Comedy not only with words of appreciation, but he certainly knew the Serchio river, the city wall, and a series of local characters met during his journey.

How I met Puccini

From Lucca to London and around the world. A little streaming and a little "edutment" TV series (education and entertainment).
Giacomo Puccini, open minded for different communication styles as well as a genius of music, would have appreciated this kind of combination.

"How I met Puccini" is a totally new format. Ten titles from the Puccini repertoire, from Le Villi to Turandot, with events of 45 minutes each, scheduled every two weeks, started in December and have accompanied us throughout the winter period.

DANTEDì, THE EVENTS FOR THE CELEBRATIONS

In the first hours of the morning the sun is rising in the constellation of Aries. It is the period of the spring equinox, when the sun rises and sets at the same time in all places of the earth marking the climatic moment of the rebirth of nature.

This way Dante gives us some indications to fix the date of departure of the journey that will take him, after the descent to the underworld, finally "to see the stars" and beyond: March 25, the national Dante-Day dedicated to Dante Alighieri.

Lucca at your home

The days are getting longer, but winter is not over yet.
In the meantime, waiting for the beautiful days in spring, enjoy some virtual tours of Lucca through space and time.

Every Saturday morning a long journey in different stages through 2200 years of Lucca's history.

Happy birthday Luigi!

Lucca is a city home to great music with a long tradition and history where important personalities like Luigi Boccherini came out.

On 19 February 1743 Luigi Boccherini was born in Lucca and on this Friday 19 February, on the Rai Cultura channel and at 9.00 pm on the YouTube  channel Associazione Musicale Lucchese, the Quartetto Guadagnini and Simone Soldati are in concert to celebrate Luigi Boccherini's birthday.

I will tell you about Puccini

Some time ago we suggested a visit to small museums to avoid the cold weather and discover unexpected things.

Happy Birthday, Maestro!

A day dedicated to music to celebrate Maestro Giacomo Puccini's birthday.

In Lucca, home of music, there is a museum, where the Maestro was born and where he lived and his birthday
will soon be celebrated. A small apartment in the historic center of Lucca that nobody would have expected
to become the setting for the life of a great artist.
